Gazmend Freitag honors the new president of the Kosovo with a portrait

In April 2021 the 38 year old lawyer Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu was elected president of the Republic of Kosovo, which declared its independence from Serbia in 2008. She is considered the most successful politician of her country. She took part in drafting the Constitution of Kosovo and in 2009 she represented her country successfully before the International Criminal Court in Den Haag. Many see in her presidency a chance to improve the role of women in the Albanian society and to advance equal rights as a political and economic reality.

Gazmend Freitag, an Austrian artist with Albanian roots, painted this portrait to congratulate the new president and to send a message of hope and respect.
